 Churngold Building Services were recently invited to support the charity ‘Help for Heroes’, by entering a team in the 5-a-side charity football tournament, organised by Fusion People on the 25th August. Fusion People, a construction industry employment agency paid all expenses including pitch hire, buffet, trophies etc. so that all entry fees and sponsorship raised went to this very deserving cause.
The team was made up of employees from Churngold Construction, Building Services and Surfacing. A late arrival meant we had to play the first game with only 4 players, but good teamwork and good use of the ball meant we managed to score, and narrowly lost 2-1 in very difficult circumstances. The team then bounced back and went on to win their 2nd game 2-1, coming from a goal behind to beat the hosts Fusion People in a close fought game. Closing out the group stage with a dominant 3-0 win, we progressed to the quarterfinals in high spirits.
The game started well with Churngold taking a deserved 1-0 lead against Painting and decorating firm Ian Williams. Ian Williams then hit back with a well struck volley from range to level the game but Churngold continued to make good use of the ball and again took the lead to make the game 2-1. However, with only 5 players a combination of tired legs and Ian Williams' good use of their rolling subs meant their fresh legs and higher energy levels started to show, and they went on to beat us 5-2. |
